How to Embed a Video into Your Publication
Embedding videos into your digital publications can vividly illustrate concepts and showcase locations in a manner that written words simply cannot, offering a visual and interactive experience that enhances understanding and engagement.
With Paperturn, you can integrate YouTube, Vimeo, or other publicly hosted videos seamlessly into any page of your digital publication. You can choose to present them as a pop-up window activated by clicking an animated hotspot, or embed them as a player that seamlessly blends into your flipbook design.
How to Insert a YouTube / Vimeo Video into Your Flipbook
Step 1:
Make sure that your desired video has been uploaded to YouTube or Vimeo.
Step 2:
Choose the flipbook you want to add a video to and click on the Edit icon.
Step 3:
On the left-hand side of the screen, you will see the Page Navigation menu with thumbnails of all of the pages in your flipbook. Choose the page you want to add a video to and then click Links and Video.
Step 4:
Click either Insert YouTube video or Insert Vimeo video.
Step 5:
Paste the video URL into the field and adjust the playback settings to your preferences.
- Show Controls: Check this box to enable video and sound controls for your viewers. If unchecked, your viewers can only pause/resume or redirect to YouTube.
- Autoplay: Check this box if you want the video to start playing automatically when the viewer reaches the page where the video is embedded. No need to press the play button!*
- Mute: Check this box to start playing the video without sound. This option will automatically be selected with autoplay.*
- Loop: Check this box to automatically replay your video again after it finishes.
- Start At: When you check this box, you can choose to start your video at a specific time. For example, entering 00:05 will start playing your video at 00:05 seconds into your video.
Step 6:
Choose whether the video should be embedded or shown as a pop-up. An embedded video plays directly within the flipbook page, while the pop-up option displays the video in a full-screen pop-up when clicked. The pop-up option is ideal if your readers primarily view your publications on mobile devices.
Step 7:
Move and scale the video to the preferred location and size.
Step 8:
Click Save changes and exit the editor. Open your flipbook to see your embedded video play!
*Autoplay technical limitations: Chrome and iOS policies restrict autoplay functionality. While iOS lacks a workaround, Chrome allows autoplay only when videos are muted. Therefore, the Mute option is the default and cannot be disabled. On mobile devices, all videos appear in a pop-up format for better viewing, necessitating user interaction to start playback, thus technically excluding autoplay in this format.
