HOBART CITY COUNCIL
The City of Hobart provides a number
of services to support the Antarctic and
Southern Ocean sector. We make great efforts
to ensure that Hobart is a friendly, pleasant
and clean city with an extensive program of
events throughout the year. City assets such
as its beautiful recreation spaces, wayfinding
signage, friendly volunteers and weekly
Salamanca Markets undoubtedly assist in
attracting Antarctic personnel back to Hobart
again and again.
The City of Hobart hosts the Annual Opening
of the Antarctic Season Reception to mark
the departure of the first expeditioners.
This is a fantastic opportunity for people from
many nations and organisations to share their
experiences, and is an acknowledgement
from the City of the huge importance it places
on Antarctica and the Southern Ocean.
The City of Hobart also provides support
by contributing expertise to sector policy,
funding for Antarctic projects and warm
greetings for visiting international Antarctic
vessels and crew.
