families going to market and more going to eat. And then scurried in front of many families on their way
to pray at the Catedral de la Asuncion de Maria Santisama -- or for short, Catedral.
“We have to find a really good vet. Someone who can perform a miracle.”
Elena looking up to Alma for guidance --- surrounds her puppy with determination.
They walk past the fountain in front of the Catedral traversing through Plaza Guadalajara. The
water shoots straight up into a masterpiece of air and water – flowing onto a round tier cascading down
into a square basin. The Cathedral, an imposing feat of architecture, can be seen from the Palacio
Gobierno (Govenor’s Palace) to the Palacio Legislativo (Legislative Palace), and the surrounding
downtown area. It resides in the middle of downtown but its influence reaches far into the city.
Alma gathers all her strength and propels her body forward. The sound of the water along with
the music of Mariachi Canela serenading a couple with “Guadalajara” energizes Alma. Her intention to
find a master vet overrides the pain she feels in her feet, She briskly leads Elena across the plaza and
up the steps to Catedral. It’s huge brown wooden doors open, injected with round bolts, beckoning all
who want to come in.
Catedral has an area where two columns frame stain glass windows and the light that drips down
rival the pleasure of unraveling a great work of art. More columns pervade the interior and lead up the
ceiling in a dramatic star point. Every corner echoing faith.
Alma takes the daily mass flyer and goes to get a candle. She makes the sign of the cross and
kneels on the pew. Elena kneels beside her.
“Heavenly Father,
Please bless my daughter Carmen in her job today. Thank you for keeping her safe her safe and blessing
her papers that she is submitting.
Thank you for sending the right vet for this puppy.
