into the cabinet for the roll of sequined trim which was mixed in with the overflow of rolls of materials red, pink, royal blue, turquoise, lavender, purple, white chiffon – that Alma had saved from her sewing
projects.
Alberto took his eyes off his last enchilada to say, “good job!” washing it down with an horchata.
“Wow, Elena, it looks so --- so beautiful!” said Ramona. “My Rafaela will love this in her solo
performance.”
Elena gave a little smile.
“Your top stitching is impeccable, I love the eyes. My daughter will be the cutest dancer in Mrs.
Ramos class!” said Ramona jubilantly.
“Yes, and look at Valentina’s quince dress. She will look like a princess!” exclaimed
Alma, taking off a stunning, pink chiffon gown, cinched at the waist. Alma walked it over to Estella as
the exquisite quince dress gently floated across the white tile floor – evoking a vision of Valentina,
gracefully going down the aisle at her quinceañera, in her first high heel shoes.
Feeling her heart swell with joy, Estella said, “When they put the tiara on her--- and she walks
thru mass at Catedral,” Alma’s soft pink creation dancing in her head, “her dream will be complete.”
“I have not finished-- I am working on the jewels for the waist,” Alma pointed out.
“I want you to do Rafaela’s dress….” chimed in Ramona.
“I don’t really like the waist – the way you have cinched it up,” expressed Esperanza.
“Well you are not paying for it,” corrected Fabiola, giving her a stern look.
“I was just commenting,” added Esperanza, “If you want Valentina to look over done on her
quince – than do it.”
Alma crinkles her nose – “What do you mean?”
“This dress is beautiful,” said Fabiola with certainty, pointing to all the detail Alma had invested
in it. “Let Alma finish it! We have your present here. Open it up.”
“But -- We have not eaten yet,” says Alma.
