Sanchez/ Princess Maria and the Adventures of Elena /Page
3
I wake to a reality I cannot escape
This line between our countries
must be some mistake
I feel like I am standing on a sea made of sand sinking deeper and deeper and deeper
But If I were a Princess
If I were a Princess
Oh, If I were a Princess
If I were a Princess
I would decree that Mom and Nana lived with me,
Mom you’re so lovely as you sat under that shade tree
Grandma would be healed and living carefree
The three of us together -- I make this heartfelt plea.
If I were a Princess
Oh, If I were a Princess
I dream of the day when we’re a family.
If I were a Princess.
“DO YOU SEE ELENA?” yells Anna.
Elena quickly stuffed her song in her backpack and took off running with terror in her face.
Tomas, carrying two black water balloons, yells back “I SAW HER ON DONATO!”
Graciela, also carrying two black water balloons, joins Ana and the three of them race to Donato
Guerra Street, hunting their prey.
Elena froze in fear, looking around desperately for a place to hide, scanning up and down Donato.
She had sprinted from the school grounds of La Academia, fleeing across Avenida Niños Heroes; boldly
dashing onto Donato Guerra Street, searching a nearby empty lot.
“I can hide here,” she told herself. “I wish I were -- home.”
